Why I created The Memory Source

My wife turned 50 (!) last year which was a big milestone for her. I felt the pressure of making the big day feel extra special because I didn't want it to feel like just another birthday.

As I thought about what would be most meaningful to her, I kept coming back to this idea of capturing all of the major moments and memories from her life. Wouldn't it be so cool if I could present her with something so she could take a trip down memory lane?

I had seen friends and family with a similar idea where they ask people to contribute memories to put together in the form of a book. I liked this idea, but I thought it would be better to create a website and then use that content to create a book down the road.

I spent many nights developing the website for my wife's birthday and reaching out to friends and family to submit their memories. The effort paid off when we presented the website to her and we saw her reaction. The website was in the form of an interactive timeline, so she could see every phase of her life -- childhood, high school, college, moving to San Francisco, and being a mom. Each phase brought in new contributors and new stories.

As I reflected on this gift, I realized there should be an easy-to-use service for other people to replicate it. I researched the market and, surprisingly, it didn't exist!

This is why I created The Memory Source. I believe that at the end of the day, memories are all that matter, and there are many different milestones when a memory-based website would be a special gift to present to someone. A big birthday. A graduation. A wedding. A retirement. A celebration of life.

I'm hopeful that many people can take advantage of The Memory Source and give the gift that really matters.
